Anaphylaxis in childrenAnaphylaxis is severe allergic reaction that needs immediate medical attention. It is such a serious condition that can lead to  death of the patient as it causes respiratory and cardiac failure. Anaphylaxis usually strike people suffering from asthma or allergies. These people can suffer an episode of anaphylaxis by exposure to simple everyday allergens such as bee stings, insect bites, food , and even medication. These allergens would normally be harmless to other people with no history of asthma. However, in some rare cases people with no symptoms or history of asthma have been known to suffer attacks of anaphylaxis.

0.1.2. What are the clinical symptoms of anaphylaxis?

Symptoms of anaphylaxis normally do not occur the first time the patient comes into contact with an allergen that triggers anaphylaxis. The time it takes to bring on an attack varies from patient to patient. Usually symptoms appear within few minutes to 30 minutes . Occasionally symptoms may be delayed uptil one hour.

It is possible to abort an attack of anaphylaxis and prevent it from occurring again with timely medical attention. An attack of Anaphylaxis will show signs of a combination of the following symptoms:

Your immunologist may prescribe a course of insect immunotherapy. Do not ignore this as these are shots that will make you immune to insect bites and stings.

Last but not the least ask your doctor about keeping an epinephrine shot on you all the time. If you fear you are getting an Anaphylaxis attack take your shot – prevention as they say, is always better than a cure.
