My child is very energetic, does he have ADHD?
Experience shows that there are perhaps no children who do not go out of control every now and then. All children have a tendency to dash about the place, create an incessant noise, run into thing all around them and simply do not pay attention to requests from parents or obey instructions. Then in contrast to this behavior they may drift into periods of day dreaming and they often fail to follow instructions. This, however, does not mean that they have Attention Deficit/hyperactivity Disorder – ADHD.
When it comes to ADHD there are specific symptoms that lead to the conclusion that the child is suffering from attention deficiency. ADHD diagnosis is purely based on clinical observation and the doctor will need specific input form people coming in contact with the child on a daily basis in order to arrive at a conclusion (often includes parents and school teachers).
Children suffering from ADHD will find it very difficult to pay attention to instructions, study, or get along with the other children around them at home or at school. The impulsive nature of this disorder actually puts the child in physical danger because ADHD patients have difficulty in controlling their behavior. If ADHD is not treated in time or left untreated the condition will have adverse affect on the child. Many children who have ADHD will experience trouble through life such as bad relationships, lawlessness, inability to keep the job and a spectrum of other problems.
A kid affected from ADHD may be very frustrated because the brain does not have the ability to control then behavior. ADHD is becoming the most chronic conditions among children all over the world. It is believed that there are more ADHD cases than reported because people do not know how to detect or recognize the symptoms of ADHD.
There are three groups of symptoms of ADHD. These are hyperactivity, Impulsive nature, and inattentiveness. Every patient diagnosed with ADHD will not have all the symptoms of the disorder. They may have one or more symptoms. However, it is best to consult a doctor who will decide after clinical evaluation whether your child is suffering from ADHD or not. He will arrive at this conclusion only after consulting the maximum number of people who work with and take care of your child.
Once the diagnosis is arrived at the doctor will draw out a medical plan, which for a majority of children suffering from the condition is very encouraging. Every individual needs a personalized medical plan to treat the disorder. This medical plan will include a long term plan with a targeted improvement in behavior, a number of follow up activities, and constant monitoring.
The parents will have to undergo an education program on ADHD and how to manage a patient suffering from it. There will be medication involved but most of all the treatment will comprise teamwork.
